Grandoe started in 1978 when a Vermont ski instructor got tired of frozen fingers ruining perfect powder days. What began as one man’s obsession with keeping hands warm has evolved into four decades of glove-making that actually gets it right. We’re still family-owned, still based in Vermont, and still convinced that proper gloves can change your entire winter.
Here’s the thing about gloves — most companies treat them as an afterthought, something you grab at the checkout counter when you realize it’s cold outside. We’ve never understood that. Your hands are how you experience the world, whether you’re gripping ski poles at 10,000 feet, scraping ice off your windshield at dawn, or building snow forts with your kids. Bad gloves don’t just make you cold; they make you miss out. So we engineer every pair like it matters, because to us, it does. We source leather that ages beautifully, insulation that breathes when you work and warms when you rest, and construction techniques that your grandfather would recognize.
We’re not the biggest glove company, and that’s intentional. Every winter, we get calls from big-box stores wanting to carry Grandoe, and every winter, we politely decline. Instead, you’ll find us in specialty shops where the staff actually knows the difference between Thinsulate and PrimaLoft, in ski towns where people wear gloves eight months a year, and online for those who’ve learned that good gloves are worth hunting for. Some of our customers have been buying Grandoe for thirty years. Their kids now buy Grandoe. That’s not marketing — that’s just what happens when you make gloves that last longer than most people’s cars.
“Finally, gloves that actually fit my hands properly. The leather on my Grandoe work gloves has held up through two Minnesota winters of chopping wood and shoveling. Still going strong.”
“I bought the wool-lined driving gloves for my daily commute. The touchscreen fingertips actually work without having to press super hard, and my hands don’t get sweaty like they did with my old synthetic pair.”
“Got these for ski patrol work. After 8-hour shifts in sub-zero temps, my fingers are still warm and I can still grip my equipment. The gauntlet style keeps snow out better than anything else I’ve tried.”
Sizes typically range from XS to XXL, with detailed measurement charts available on product pages. To find the right fit, measure around the knuckles (excluding thumb) with fingers together and palm flat. The circumference in inches corresponds to the size chart. When between sizes, selecting the larger size usually provides better comfort.
Leather gloves benefit from occasional conditioning with a leather balm or cream to prevent drying and cracking. If they get wet, let them air dry naturally away from direct heat sources. Store them flat or gently stuffed with tissue paper to maintain shape during off-seasons. Spot cleaning with a damp cloth handles most everyday dirt.
Most orders ship within 1-2 business days during regular periods. During peak seasons like winter holidays, processing may extend to 3-4 business days. Tracking information gets sent via email once the package leaves the warehouse. Standard shipping usually delivers within 5-7 business days after processing.
Many modern styles feature conductive material on fingertips that allows touchscreen use without removal. This technology is typically integrated into the index finger and thumb. Product descriptions clearly indicate which models include this feature. The touchscreen capability works with most smartphones and tablets.
Thinsulate and PrimaLoft synthetic insulations offer excellent warmth-to-weight ratios and maintain insulating properties even when damp. Natural options like shearling and cashmere provide luxurious warmth. Many styles combine waterproof outer shells with these insulating layers for maximum winter protection.
Returns are accepted within 30 days of purchase for unworn items in original condition with tags attached. The return process starts through the order confirmation email or customer account portal. Exchanges for different sizes ship free when processed through the standard return system.
